Marvel Stadium has reopened following an evacuation caused by a false fire alarm ahead of this afternoon’s Big Bash Grand Final.
Hundreds of staff were asked to leave and gathered out the front of the stadium, but have since returned to work.
Security staff at Marvel Stadium have told the Herald Sun the general public had been evacuated and only staff and players were currently allowed in the stadium.
The ground’s emergency sirens were activated but have since stopped.
Fire trucks are understood to have arrived at Gate 7.
Cricket Australia has confirmed that the inciddent was a false alarm.
“The alarm was unable to be switched off until the fire brigade arrived,” a Cricket Australia spokesman said.
“All operations are now back to normal.”
Gates are due to open to the public on schedule at 1pm.
The venue is scheduled to host this afternoon’s BBL Grand Final between the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades.
